DOREEN MARIE GARTON (nee Lavallee) December 18, 1942 - July 9, 2010 It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother (mama), great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Doreen Garton, on Friday, July 9, 2010 at the age of 67. Doreen is survived by her husband Claude; children Rhonda, Edward (Laura) and Cindy (Terry); grandchildren Kevin, Justine, Tyler and Cole; and great-grandchildren Darrien and Sereniti. Doreen will also be missed by her sister Lorraine (Harry); brothers Roland (Juliette) and Joe; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Jéan-Baptiste and Marie; brothers Clarence, Robert and Allan; sister Frieda; nephew Clarence; niece Lori-Anne; son-in-law Bernie Vachon; and also by her partner-in-crime Pat Wasylkiw. Doreen was born in Winnipeg and raised in St. Laurent, MB. She moved to Winnipeg at the age of 17 to work. She worked at various jobs over the past 50 years, the longest being at ITT Canada as a telephone assembler. She also enjoyed working as a florist in the later years. She was always a very hard worker in and outside the home. She put 110% into everything she did. Holidays were always a joy to her, especially at Christmas time. She went all out with all her decorating, especially her red and white tree that was always immaculate and beautiful. All the hours she spent baking, wrapping, preparing the whole dinner on her own, even making her own kahlua every year, was so very much appreciated. Sitting by the tree every year, calling us up one by one and handing us our gifts, was her favourite part of the day. We're sure going to miss that, Christmas won't be the same without Our Santa. Doreen loved her children very much. She did everything she possibly could for them and more. When she became a grandmother (mama) life kind of changed and she and Claude's world revolved around their little Termite (Kevin). A few years later Justine, Tyler and Cole came along adding more joy after each one of them. She then became a great-grandmother and life couldn't get any better. Doreen was a long time member of West Kildonan Legion #30. She was best known at the legion as Muffin where she worked and also volunteered with the Ladies Auxiliary. She had so many close friends that will miss her very much. Prayers will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., on Wednesday, July 14 at 7 p.m. with family and friends gathering at the legion, 1748 Main St. at Hartford, afterwards. Viewing will be held at St. Laurent Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, July 15, at 10:30 a.m. with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Cremation will take place after the service with interment to follow at a later date. Pallbearers will be Wayne Bruce, Robert Coutu, Michael Tschetter, Danny Wasylkiw, Gary Van Den Bossche and Harold Tschetter. Honourary pallbearers will be Roland Lavallée, Joe Lavallée, Edward St. Cyr, Terry Coutu, Kevin Lavallée, Tyler Coutu and Cole McKay. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Legion #30, West Kildonan Branch, 1748 Main St., Winnipeg, MB R2V 1Z5 P.S. Claude will be lost without his Dottie , but we'll take good care of him for mom.
