Survived by her daughters Pat Pruden (Don) and Connie Rapko (Doug), grandsons Troy (Heather) and Jason (Sheri), great-grandchildren Scott, Amber-Lynne, Tyler and Ryan whom she loved and cherished, brother Don (Brenda), sisters-in-law May and Margaret, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Jean was born and raised in the Melnice area, Mom and Dad married and settled in the Petersfield area where they farmed and raised their family. They later moved to Selkirk where Mom worked as a nurses aide at the Red River Nursing Home for 18 years before retirement where she made many lasting friendships. Our Mother was a strong and determined women who did not let asthma and arthritis get the best of her. One of her pastimes was knitting and she did so most of her life. She made sure her family was outfitted with the latest fashion of the day. Her latest project was knitting mittens for the Christmas Hampers each year. One of her loves was tending her flowers, which gave her great joy, and her vegetable garden which produced the bounty to create her pickles, relishes and borsht. Mom was famous for her perogies and cabbage rolls and she treated friends and family to it all. She enjoyed playing bingo with her friend Alice for many years and continued to play bingo with her friends at the Knights Centre. We would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses of the Selkirk and District General Hospital, Arlene and Corey of Palliative Care, and the wonderful angels from Home Care who gave her such loving care during Jean's short illness. Interment of her ashes will take place on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. George's Wakefield Cemetery prior to the Service of Remembrance which will be held in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Jean Willis to the New MRI Fundraising Initiative, for the new Selkirk Regional Health Centre.
