ANNE MARIE BLACK (SZKWAREK)
Date of Passing: Jul 09, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNE MARIE BLACK (nee SZKWAREK) Peacefully in her sleep, at Fred Douglas Lodge, on July 9, 2010, Anne passed away at the age of 87 years. She will be forever loved and missed by her son Rick (Lise); daughter Christine Pochinko (Dave); sisters Lil Janus (Harry) and Katie Vinet; brother Joe Squires; five grandchildren, Danah Bellehumeur (Mike), Conrad Pochinko, Shauna Black, Kerri Black, Krista Black (Elie Katzin); two great-grandchildren, Hope and Cole Pochinko; and sister-in-law Olga Diduck. She will also be missed by her best friend Ollie Michaluk and cousin Rose Marion whom she would talk on the phone with every night. She will also be missed by nieces, nephews, their spouses and many friends. Anne was predeceased by her husband of 65 years Stanley on June 29, 2007 and her parents Rozalia and Anthony Szkwarek. Anne was born November 15, 1922. Throughout her life she worked at Kelekis Restaurant, Eaton's downtown Winnipeg and North Bay, Ontario and finally Gambles in Winnipeg. From 1956 to 1968, Anne spent her life moving around with Stanley while he was posted at different stations in the Air Force including Lac St. Denis, QC, Foymount, ON and North Bay, ON. Over the years, she continued to communicate with all her friends from those postings. Anne was known for her kindness, generosity and good nature. She hosted many fun parties in their rec room on Inkster Blvd. and loved to dress up with her large false eye lashes and make everyone laugh. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Senior Achievers with Legion Branch 141 until her passing and she loved to attend all the teas. Anne was also known for her cooking and baking and she loved to tell everyone that she once made 800 perogies on her own in one afternoon. Because of the problems she had with her foot, she would tell everyone how the boys used to whistle at her and her legs as she walked by them. At this time, the family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Amber Meadows where she lived after Stanley passed away, the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge where she lived since April of this year and all the health care workers that she came into contact with at both residences including her home on Inkster Blvd. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anne's memory to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 141 on Selkirk Ave. Funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home. Reception to follow. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111

Dear Christine and Rick, I was your neighbour, on Monreith St in Winnipeg when we were kids until my family moved when I was in Grade 2. I have wonderful memories of sitting in your kitchen watching your Mom make pirogies, cabbage rolls and showing me how she put them together. She didn’t mind that I stuck around and she always fed me something delicious! I eventually learned to make pirogies, cabbage roll, sauerkraut buns, and borscht, because I enjoyed that part of my childhood so much. I have never forgotten your family. Thank you for the beautiful tribute to your Mom that I have read twice and for the photo that you chose because it is how I remember her. My husband and I send our condolences and I send my love, as well, Alyce Elinor (nee Bristow) - Posted by: Alyce Elinor (Friend and neighbour ) on: Mar 01, 2022

A beautiful tribute. My grandma also had skin soft as a baby's bum, and was the most feminine woman I've ever known. Lipstick in the fridge, purses and scarves as pristine as the day they were made. An appreciater of dirty comics. A wicked sense of humour, and dainty hands. An anomaly. They broke the mold. Thank you for this moving tribute. - Posted by: Shauna Black (Grandaughter) on: Jul 13, 2014
