ANNE ASSELIN On July 9, 2010 our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend left us. She left peacefully with family at her side ending an illness she long bore with quiet and uncomplaining dignity. Memories of Anne will be kept dear by her sons Richard (Colette) and Gary (Nancy), grandchildren Christian (Cathy), Juidre and Amanda, great-grandson Braaka, brother Michael and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by George, her husband of 34 years, her son Kenneth and daughter Debbie, twin sister Marie and parents Metro and Tatianna. Anne was born on May 17, 1932 in Camp Morton near the homestead of her parents. As first generation Canadians from the Ukraine, the family was proud to farm near Gimli, Manitoba. Anne met George in Winnipeg and they started a family in 1955. Anne worked in her home as wife and mother before becoming employed. She retired from the Paddle Wheel at the Hudson's Bay Company in Winnipeg after many years of enjoyable service. Her greatest joys were her garden and the many birds she encouraged to visit her yard with the aid of birdfeeders, houses and baths. She kept a special place in her heart for her great-grandson, Braaka. The family wishes to thank the staff of Beacon Hill Lodge for care and friendship they offered during her brief residence, and the doctors and nurses of St. Boniface Hospital Emergency Department whose attentive and tender care ensured that her final hours were ones of dignity and comfort. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Ebbeling-Treon for her many years of care and support. Service will be held at Green Acres, Highway 1 East on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Please make a donation to CancerCare Manitoba in lieu of flowers.
