Survived by his loving wife, Julie (Coutu, Desmarais); daughters from his first marriage: Marlene (Tammas) Scott, Victoria Beach, MB; Betty (Keith) Somerville, Kingston, ON; Maryann (Bruce) Kershaw, Barbados; and Barbara (Frank) Gibbs, Ancaster, ON; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; siblings: Ed, Agnes, Kathleen, Abe, David and Henry; Julie's children: Bernice (Rick) Klyne, St. Laurent, MB; Louise Champagne (Russ Rothney), Winnipeg; Lionel (Catherine) Desmarais, Hillsdale, ON; Theresa (Victor) Schmidt, Winnipeg; Barbara Desmarais, Winnipeg; George (Terri) Desmarais, Winnipeg; and Dennis (Donna) Desmarais, Winnipeg; 16 of Julie's grandchildren and her 17 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his first wife, Rose-Marie (Coutu); siblings, Bill, Dorothy, Paul, Ben and Lydia; and Julie's granddaughter, Renée Desmarais. John was born in Plum Coulee, MB, on October 25, 1922, son of Peter and Tina (Braun) Buhr. John was a Second World War veteran and a skilled carpenter. He loved building and fixing things, enjoyed camping trips, and was an avid fisherman. He had a witty sense of humour and was a good storyteller. John was a very devoted and loving husband and father and took pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also had fun with Julie's poodle, Coco. His family expresses their sincere appreciation for the compassionate care provided by staff of Seven Oaks Hospital, where he spent his final few days. A family memorial gathering will be held.
