JEAN KATHERINE (JOHNSTON) SAYER June 9, 1914 - July 12, 2010 Jean passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital on Monday July 12, 2010. Missing Jean will be her daughter Gwen (Ron) Rasmussen and their children: Kathie Scouten, Dan (Susan) Rasmussen, Sonja (Tim) Reisdorf, and Christine (Marcel) Houde; her son Jim (Gloria) Sayer and their children: Dean (Debbie) Sayer, Andrew (Krista) Sayer, Michael (Robbin) Sayer, and Dennis (Jane) Sayer; her daughter Rosemary (Albert) Braaten and their children: Derek (Julia) Braaten, Bill Braaten and Mark (Kari) Braaten. She also leaves her 26 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mum was born and raised in Holland, MB. In 1938 she married Eric Sayer, also from Holland. Their first home was in Methven, MB, where all three children were born. Dad bought grain for the Lake of the Woods Milling Co. and Mum ran the post office from the front of their home. In 1947, they decided to leave Manitoba and headed west to Saskatchewan. Over the years Dad continued to buy grain for different companies in different points. We all made new homes and new friends in Strongfield, Weyburn, Cupar and Abbey. Mum adjusted to the many challenges and made comfortable, warm homes for us wherever we went. She was always a supporter of Dad in his work and of the many activities in which we kids participated. After their retirement, Mum and Dad moved to Indian Head, SK, but soon after Dad became ill, and in 1978 he died of cancer. Mum chose to stay in Indian Head and spent 28 happy years there. She was involved with the Anglican Church, the Horticultural Society and the Canadian Legion. In 2003 her health began to fail so she moved to Winnipeg to be closer to family. Mum was an excellent seamstress, quilter, cook and gardener. She also loved to read, play bridge and do crossword puzzles. Her family was so important to her. Hearing from the twigs in the family tree' as she referred to everyone, brought her great joy. The family would like to extend their thanks to the people at Hayes Haven in Indian Head, the folks at Rosewood Village in Winnipeg and finally the caregivers at Golden West Centennial Lodge in Winnipeg for the wonderful care Mum received these past years. In lieu of flowers, donations to Golden West Centennial Lodge, (811 School Rd., Winnipeg, MB R2Y 0S8) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba (6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6) would be appreciated. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Starbuck, MB. Interment of ashes will be at a later date in Indian Head, SK. NEIL BARDAL INC. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Aunt Jean was always such a great hostess. We used to go to her place in Indian Head on special Sunday nights when we lived in Regina and she would feed our family with the greatest dinners. When we came to leave she would pack up whatever she thought we might want. My children all remember how sweet she was. We are unable to be present at her funeral tomorrow but all of us will be thinking of her and the family. - Posted by: Donna Beaudry (Family) on: Jul 15, 2010
