JACOB (JAKE) DONALD EPP May 2, 1921 - July 7, 2010 Our father was a gentle man of intelligence, integrity and insight who possessed an enduring and admirable work ethic throughout his life. These qualities, and an innate entrepreneurial spirit and love of organized sports, inspired the opening, with our mom, of St. James Sports Center. St. James Sports Center was, for many years, a hallmark of excellence on Portage Avenue. For Dad, organized sports were a passion and he participated at every level from community club organization (Issac Brock), to the coaching of hockey and baseball at the junior level. Many of the players he coached would count him as a friend and a mentor more than just a coach. Both curling and baseball kept him active and involved in his retirement. Dad, predeceased by Mom (Shirley) in 2007, was a devoted husband and a loving father to his four children. He is survived by his sons Barry (Kate) and Cecil, his daughters Pat Krowetz (Tom), Jennifer Watt (Chris), 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, his brothers Harry and Ed, his sisters Nettie, Sue and Helen, and many nieces and nephews. Generous of spirit, Dad was constant in his readiness to help others; be it close family, neighbours or simply someone needing transportation to or from CancerCare where he volunteered. Hunting, most often with his sons, woodworking, gardening and the love of those feathered friends that gathered there, were his hobbies. His was an active, rewarding life with the early challenges of humble beginnings overcome through self reliance, hard work and determination. Perhaps, and appropriately, our Father's legacy. Deeply loved. Certainly missed. Always remembered. In lieu of flowers, donations to CancerCare Manitoba, Room 1160 - 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9 are appreciated. Memorial Service and Reception: Wednesday, July 21, 2010, 10:00 a.m., Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, 885-9715. Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies . John 11:25, NIV.
