Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryISABEL LENORE (SNIDER) MACDOUGALL Isabel Lenore (Snider) MacDougall slipped away peacefully on the morning of July 9, 2010 in Vancouver age 95. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Jack MacDougall in October of 1992. Isabel is survived by her daughters Joan Marshall (Bob), and children David (Michele) and great-grand-daughter Peyton, Alexander and Craig; and Janet Mittler (Gerry), and children Aaron (Mary) and great-granddaughter Molly, and Megan; and her brother-in-law Dr. D.H. MacDougall of Edmonton. Isabel was born on the family farm on land granted to her United Empire Loyalist ancestors near Lancaster, Ontario on December 8, 1914 to William and Sara Belle Snider. She grew up with her three brothers and excelled in school in Glengarry county where her mother was the much beloved and accomplished primary teacher. At age 16, she lost her parents within three months of each other. In 1937 Isabel graduated as an R.N. from Montreal General Hospital where she met Jack. They were married in Regina in 1941. While Jack was overseas for four years during the war, Isabel returned to Montreal where she studied nursing administration. After the war Jack and Isabel lived in Edinburgh, Scotland and Indian Head, Saskatchewan where Joan was born in 1948. They moved to Wildwood Park in Winnipeg, where Janet was born in 1949 and they survived the 1950 flood. Isabel was a tireless volunteer for the St. Agnes Guild, Fort Garry United Church and the Medical Faculty Women's Club. Her life was full with raising two girls. She became an accomplished bridge player and golfer. She loved to cook and to knit and her gardening was a natural expression of her farming background. She was determined in passing on these values and skills, particularly education and lifelong learning, to her daughters. In 1979 Jack retired and they moved to Victoria where they had a wonderful retirement and travelled all over the world. In 2001 Isabel moved to Blenheim Lodge in Vancouver where she was a happy participant in the social life there. Special thanks to the staff at Blenheim Lodge, Dr. Musial and Dr. Wood for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Blenheim Lodge Staff Fund, 3263 Blenheim Street Vancouver, BC V6L 2X7 or to the Canadian Cancer Society. A private family memorial service will be held on Sunday July, 18 in Vancouver.
