AGNES BOGI (nee Szabo) May 16, 1931 - July 16, 2010 With family by her side to the end, it is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the peaceful and serene passing of our dear mother Agnes. And it is with our deepest love and devotion that we express our gratitude, appreciation, and most heartfelt thanks to our mother for the gifts of her unconditional love, her nurturing, her devotion, her selflessness, her sacrifices, her support, her wisdom and guidance, her wonderful charm, and her gift of humour and laughter. Born in Budapest Hungary, mom and our father, Peter Gyula Bogi, predeceased 1990, fled Hungary as refugees during the revolution of 1956. They subsequently married in St. Genis-Laval (Lyon), France on June 1, 1957, immigrating to Canada in August of that same year. In their new lives in their adopted country they worked and travelled their way across Canada from Quebec City to Abbotsford, to Victoria, to Toronto, finally settling in Winnipeg where they, for the exception of one year (1970) in Vancouver, remained and made their lives together with their two sons. Mom and dad were entrepreneurial and together owned and operated several businesses throughout their lives, ending with the Goulash House Restaurant shortly after dad's passing and then mom's retirement in 1992. Mom enjoyed many activities in retirement most notably her new found recreation of bowling which she gave up in 2008. She was a feisty, friendly, and charming person who endeared herself to the many people within her community. Always very proud of her family she could often be seen showing pictures of her sons and grandchildren at the many places she conducted her affairs. Independent, strong willed, and self reliant, mom was a source of great strength to her sons. She knew no greater joy then to prepare meals for her family, and took enormous satisfaction and pride in being a mother and grandmother. In one of our last conversations with her, mom said, szép életem volt (I've had a beautiful life). Mom is mourned and will be lovingly remembered by her sons Peter and Steve, and grandchildren Vanessa, Nathan, and Richard. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 21, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Timothy Parish, 135 John Forsyth Rd. Interment will follow in St. Vital Cemetery.
