KATHERINE VANDEKERKHOVE (KAY) Peacefully with her family by her side, Kay Vandekerkhove passed away at the Victoria General Hospital, Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the age of 83 years. Kay was predeceased by her beloved husband Sonny in 1987 and her son David in 2004, daughter-in-law Marcia in 2005, and son-in-law Rick in 2007, also sister Doris and brother Lloyd. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Loraine, Dennis (Norma), Richard (Debra), Marianne (Rick), nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, brother John and sister Mary and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Kay's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. A private interment will take place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Special thanks are extended to Misericordia Health Centre, Cornish 2 and also to the staff of the Victoria General Hospital for their loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Kay to the CancerCare Manitoba. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 982-7550

"Friend" is not enough to describe my relationship with Kay. She was Mom's best friend and has always been a special part of my life. The night I was born, Mom asked Kay to come and stay with Brent when she knew it was time to get to the hospital. Kay's response: "Sonny can stay wtih Brent. I'm going to the hospital with you and Bill!" Kay held me, no more than half an hour after I was born.
