MARJORIE ISABEL TRENHOLM (MACDONALD) Marjorie Isabel (Macdonald) Trenholm, aged 65, of Amherst, NS, passed away peacefully July 16th, 2010, after an 18-month battle with cancer. She was surrounded by loving family. Born in Sydney, NS, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Anne Macdonald. She is survived by her beloved husband and partner of 43 years, Brian; daughter Allison of Ottawa; sons Ian(Karen) of Victoria, Jonathan (Chantal) of Winnipeg, and David, currently of Daejeon, South Korea; as well as by her brother, Dr. Sandy Macdonald (Michele) of Iqaluit, and sister-in-law Nancy (Jack) MacDonald of Baddeck and their family. Marjorie was intensely proud of her four children and their families. She was a loving grandmother to Annabel (Allison), Isla (Ian and Karen), Aubrey and Manon (Jonathan and Chantal), and a special Auntie Marj to Martha Anne (Sandy and Michele). Fortunately, all were able to visit her during the last few weeks. A graduate of Mount Allison and Dalhousie Universities, Marjorie was an inspired and inspiring teacher in both Dartmouth and Winnipeg for over 30 years. She believed in the importance of education and lifelong learning. Her den wall carries the quilt presented at her retirement, adorned by individual art from each of the 25 students in her last Grade 6 class students who graduated high school this June. Marjorie enjoyed the beauty of art, nature and good literature, especially at the family cottage at Amherst Shore. She was an avid and eclectic reader all of her life. A willing and dedicated volunteer, Marjorie served as President of Amherst and Area Zonta, and in Winnipeg with the Junior League and Fort Garry United Church. She was a person who loved strong and fully shared friendships, and she was fortunate to have many of these, including with her Brian. A highlight of their life together was the five week 40th Anniversary trip to Europe in 2007, when they visited London, Switzerland, Tuscany and Greece. This was followed in 2008 by the aptly-named Son Tour , to Winnipeg, Victoria, and South Korea. Marjorie and Brian wish to thank those at Nova Scotia Cancer Care, particularly, Drs Rittenburg and Nolan, nurses Jodie and Thelma, and the chemo nurses on 11 Victoria for their wonderful care. Thanks as well to the staff of ICU and 2nd Surgery at Cumberland Regional Hospital, and to the Palliative Care team headed by Dr. Atkinson. VON home care nurses were wonderful, and allowed us to be comfortable at Amherst Shore, Marjorie's favourite spot. Cremation has occurred in accordance with Marjorie's wishes. A memorial service to celebrate this good life will be held at Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst, on Wednesday, July 21, at 1:00 p.m. No flowers please. Donations may be made to the Stephen Lewis Foundation Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign, the Cumberland Regional Hospital Foundation, or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Campbell's Funeral Home, Amherst, NS, (902-667-9906) On-line condolences may be sent to the family via: www.campbells-amherst.ca
