ALEXANDER STETZ Peacefully, on July 15, 2010, with his loving family by his side, Alex, age 81, passed away at the Beausejour District Hospital. He will be sadly missed by his son Jack Stetz (Lois), children Nicole and Jacob; daughter Pauline Post (Stan), children Brendan and Kaitlin; and daughter Marilyn Starkey (Mike), children Spencer and Leandra. Alex is survived by his sister Annie Duncan, sister-in-law Stephie Stetz and many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Rose, on August 4, 2006, his parents Wasyl and Pauline, sisters Jean and Anastasia, brothers Tony, Norman, Dmytro and Mike. Alex was born on March 25, 1929 at Ledwyn, Manitoba. He grew up and worked on the family farm until 1950, when at the age of 21, he pursued a career with the Manitoba Power Commission, now called Manitoba Hydro. His career took him to many interesting places throughout Manitoba. With Seven Sisters being his last posting, he officially retired in 1985. On October 27, 1956, Alex married Rose Gmiterek. They settled in Beausejour and resided there all their lives. Through almost 50 years of marriage, they raised their three children, whom they loved and adored. During those years, they also shared in the joy of the company and love of their six cherished grandchildren. Alex enjoyed many things in life. One of his passions was nature. He loved gardening, growing all kinds of flowers and many kinds of trees, especially cedars and spruce. Music was a big part of his life. He started this passion for music early in life with violin and guitar. In his later years, he continued to play his guitar and sing his old songs. A visit to his house was never complete without a cup of coffee or tea and his love of desserts. A family gathering was always accompanied by a full course feast. He could fix anything. No job was too great of a task. In his spare time, you could find Dad at CO-OP coffee shop or Vickie's, sitting at the round table, having coffee with his friends and discussing life's issues. Many good times were had by all! Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue East, Beausejour. Interment to follow the service at the Beausejour Cemetery, with Pastor John Rempel officiating. God has you in His keeping, We have you in our hearts! Til we meet again! If so desired, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Beausejour Hospital TV Fund.
