ELEANOR ROSE GANAS, RN (nee HODGKINSON) Peacefully after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer, it is with deep regret and sorrow that we announce the passing of Eleanor Rose Ganas on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at home with her family by her side at the age of 71 years. Remaining to forever cherish Eleanor's memory are her loving husband of 46 years Leon; sons, Dan and Christopher (Jane); grandchildren, Ethan, Elliot and Amelia; mother Gladys; sisters, Doreen and Joan; brother Gary; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her father Austin and daughter Leslie Anne. Eleanor was born in Gods Lake, Manitoba on January 28, 1939 and spent her childhood years in Island Lake, Manitoba before moving to Winnipeg at age 13. She was a graduate of the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. She loved being a nurse and was incredibly dedicated to her profession. Eleanor was an avid gardener and reader and was always renovating and decorating the home she loved so much. She and her husband travelled extensively and managed to visit four continents. She was a devoted grandmother who loved to spend as much time as possible spoiling her three grandchildren. Eleanor's Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 21 at 10:30 a.m. in The Bridge Church, South West corner of Portage Avenue and the Perimeter Highway. The family wishes to thank the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, and especially Dr. James Johnston and nurse Erin Elphee for their compassionate and gracious care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eleanor's name can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9.
