WALTER HEWAK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Walter on Friday, July 16, 2010. Walter was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Stefania, and niece, Debbie. He is survived by brother, Ben (Ramona); his son, Donald (Leila); daughter, Patricia; grand-daughter, Taylor; stepson, Walter Jr.; niece, Donna (Garry); nephew, Nicholas; niece, Darcia and numerous other nieces and nephews. Walter was born in Winnipeg on November 25, 1933 and lived his entire life in the North End. He attended Norquay School and St. John's High School where he was active in baseball, football and basketball. He went on to play junior football for the Winnipeg Light Infantry and was involved for many years as a professional wrestler and a boxing promoter. In his earlier years Walter was a member of the O. Koshetz Choir and later was a member of the Hoosli Ukrainian Male Chorus. During his life he was extremely passionate of his Ukrainian heritage. Memorial service (Panakhyda) will be sung 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 21 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. with Fr. Bohdan Lukie, C.Ss.R. officiating. As requested by Walter, cremation has taken place. A private family interment will take place at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walter's memory to Holy Family Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2W 1T9, Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg R3T 0R3, or a charity of one's choice.
