Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEVELYN JEAN SPULNICK (nee SENKO) January 20, 1935 - July 17, 2010 It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. After a short battle suffering with respiratory difficulties, Mom succumbed to God's call at Selkirk and District General Hospital. Jean's memory will be forever cherished by her children, Robert (Page), Joe, Barb (Ken) Porter, George (Kelly) and Carol (Mike) Andryo; grandchildren Lyndsay (Richard) Leahy and Matthew and Keith and Kaitlyn; step-grandson Rick (Leighan) and granddaughter Stephanie; Amber and Braden; Courtney and Billy. Jean has two great-grandchildren Eden Leahy and Kenzi Porter. Jean leaves to mourn her sister Olga Lachuta; brother David (Fleurette) Senko; sister-in-law Jean (Walter) Kozera, and many nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her husband Peter Spulnick in 1989 after 31 years of marriage, her parents Nicholas (2004) and Mary (1988) Senko, sister Rose and brother-in-law Bernie Van DeMeer. Mom was born and raised in Meleb, MB. In 1958, she met the love of her life, Peter. They married and raised their five children in Malonton where they worked hard on a family farm. During hard times, mom took on extra work in a catering facility at Aspen Lodge where she made many friends. During the summer, Mom and Dad also sold fruit at a fruit stand. Mom enjoyed camping, getting together with friends to play cards and looked forward to family gatherings. In her spare time she loved gardening, knitting, crocheting, baking and in her later years spent many hours puzzling. A few years after dad passed away, Mom left the farm and moved to the Lions Manor in Selkirk, MB. Mom made many new friends and very good neighbours. They gathered for coffee and lunch, organized parties (which she looked forward to) and enjoyed a good laugh. Special thanks to Stella Mankewich for being such a dear friend to mom. The family appreciates the assistance, love and support you and others from the Lions Manor gave to mom. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Antonenko and the nursing staff at Selkirk and District General Hospital for the care and compassion you showed during mom's illness while in your care. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 23, at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church (corner of Pacific Avenue and Sophia Street) with Fr. Peter Chorney officiating. Viewing will take place one hour prior to Mass. Interment will follow lunch in the St. Mary and Protectress Cemetery in Malonton, MB. Pallbearers will be: Matthew, Keith and Braden Spulnick, Billy Andryo, Rick Porter and Mike Andryo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Mary and Protectress Cemetery, c/o Box 56, Malonton, MB R0C 1Z0, or Interlake Regional Health - Selkirk New Building Fund, Box 5000, Selkirk, MB R1A 2M2.
