LENA VERMETTE It is with the deepest of sorrow that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, and grandmother. With her family by her side, Lena Vermette left us on Thursday, July 15, 2010, after a lengthy illness. Lena was predeceased by her parents Albert and Josephine; sisters, Simone (Andy), Bertha and Dorothy. She leaves to cherish her memory her forever loving husband of 52 years, Louis; sons Gerald (Cindy), Brian (Sheila); her grandchildren, James, Sarah, Melisa, Carly, Danielle and Nicole; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Emma June, Genesis, and Mikayla; sisters, Armande (Ullysse), Yvonne (Don); brothers-in-law, Edgar and Horace. Mom was born and raised in St. Anne, Manitoba where she lived a quiet, country life. Then on a blind date mom met the love of her life Louis. They would soon fall in love, get married and move to Winnipeg where they would start a long and happy life together. Mom was a caring person who worked as a nurse's aide at St. Amant Centre until poor health forced her to stop. She would continue her loving and caring ways with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she loved with all of her heart. Mom would live her entire life in Winnipeg close to loved ones. She was very giving. She was always giving somebody something that she created from one of her many hobbies that included knitting, sewing, crocheting and collecting dolls, lots of dolls. Mom was also a big fan of wrestling. She would never admit it, but we knew she was. The family would like to thank the following people at the Health Sciences Centre for the personal care and attention they gave to Mom. It made a difference. To Linda and admitting staff, emergency doctors and nurses, B3 third floor Frederica, Cathy, Doug, nurses and staff, GH4 wing and all doctors and nurses, I.C.U. staff and nurses, all her friends at the Health Sciences Centre, special friend Marie, also special thanks to Doctors Kalicinsky and John Mayba. In keeping with Lena's wishes, cremation has taken place and private family service was held. Donations may be made in Lena's memory to the Manitoba Lung Association.
