Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARMANN SOLVASON Armann Solvason peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the age of 85 as a resident of Vista Park Lodge. Predeceased by parents Armann Solvason and Martha Sund (Solvason), wife Marie, sons Donald and Doug, his brother Kari and sister Thelma Hjalmarson, brothers-in-law Russ Schweitzer, John Hjalmarson, Frank Burke and Art Larsson, and sister-in-law Ruth Rockley. Grandpa will be lovingly remembered by daughter-in-law Arlene (Doug) and family Matthew (Bela), Byron (Michelle), and Dayna (Tim) and great-granddaughters Keianna and Eden, son Arthur and family, Anders and Kelsey, sisters Helen Larsson and Florence Burke and brother Palmer. Armann was born on March 25, 1925 in Winnipeg. He spent his youth growing up in Woodlands and that is where he met his future wife Marie. Grandpa farmed plus took on full time employment in Winnipeg; first Dominion Bridge and soon after with United Grain Growers where he was shop foreman at their Fort Whyte Operation until his retirement. Grandpa was a devoted husband and father and that meant rushing home from work, gulping down supper and then transporting his sons (and others) to whatever hockey or baseball game or practice that was on the schedule. Quite a hectic pace. But that was Grandpa's trademark - always there! Grandpa was especially close to his brother Palmer and before all the electronic and computer changes to vehicles, the two of them could often be found fixing their vehicles (and other family vehicles) whether it be a simple brake repair or something much more complex. When grandsons Matt and Byron became involved with their own vehicles, they wanted Grandpa's advice, involvement and expertise which he was always happy to lend. Doug's family cabin at Booster Lake was built with the slave labour of Grandpa. From the cutting down of trees and clearing of the lot, the hauling of gravel to pour the pads they formed and the framing the cabin to the finishing, Grandpa was always there. Advice was often sought and then given, help was always offered and gladly accepted for Grandpa was a gracious man who not only wanted to help, but to do things right and to leave nothing undone. In accordance with his wishes, cremation and private interment will take place. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Children's Hospital.
