EMILY JOAN TESCH Emily passed away suddenly on Friday, July 16, 2010 at Concordia Place Care Centre where she resided for the past five and one-half years. She was born on November 7, 1923 in Atwater, Saskatchewan and was the daughter of Pauline (nee Filkowski) and William Martin. Beginning at a young age, she worked hard to help her parents on their farm. She later moved to Winnipeg, MB where she worked as a cook and eventually ran her own restaurant where she was famous for her homemade pies. Emily was married to Harry Robert Tesch in 1946. Their son, Brian, was born in September of 1955. Harry's mother, Hilda, was cared for by Emily and Harry in their home for many years until her passing in 1979. Emily was predeceased by her parents, her husband Harry and his parents, her brother Walter and wife Ada, and her brothers-in-law Alfred Siedler and Doug Tesch. She is survived by her son Brian (Sonia), her sister Eva Siedler, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as a tall, strong woman with a beautiful smile and a generous heart who helped out her family and friends whenever they needed some assistance. She and Harry loved to entertain and Emily's delicious home-cooked meals and baking were always a big part of those gatherings. Emily loved all animals and living creatures. She also appreciated and enjoyed simple pleasures like an afternoon visit from friends and family or a day-trip out in the country. Emily wanted her son to know about and appreciate GOD as she did. That knowledge played a big part in his life and continues to do so to this day. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 26, 2010 at Brookside Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Instead, please make a donation in Emily's memory to The Winnipeg Humane Society, D'Arcy's A R C, or the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter in honour of her love for animals. Thank-you to the staff at Concordia Place for the wonderful care given to Emily over the past five and one-half years. Her remains have been entrusted to Voyage Funeral Home for cremation.
