CLAUDE NOE ROY 1919 - 2010 The passing of Claude Noe Roy (age 90) occurred at Circle Drive Nursing Home in Saskatoon on July 25, 2010. The son of Edward and Melvina Roy (nee Dufour), he was born on the family farm at Glentworth, SK on October 28, 1919. He received his early education in Glentworth, finishing with a business course in Regina. In 1940 he joined the Armed Forces and graduated as a pilot with Royal Canadian Air Force. He served overseas 1941 to 1945, completing two operational tours and was discharged in November 1945. He married Marian Fyfe Hughes in 1946 and shared 54 years with her before her passing in January 2000. He was employed with Sears in 1948, retiring in 1982 from the Polo Park Winnipeg store as Group Personnel Manager. Claude was active in personnel associations, serving as President of the Saskatoon Association in 1974 and the Winnipeg Association in 1979 to 1980. Claude enjoyed his membership in the Kiwanis Club of Saskatoon, where he served four years, in two separate terms as a Director. As a member he volunteered at the Oliver Lodge Nursing Home and the Woodworking Program at City Park High School. He served for three and a half years in Saskatoon on the Georgia Manor Condominium Board. Left to mourn his passing are his four children: Sheila (Blair) Backman, Consul, SK; Dale (Suzanne) Roy, Hamilton, ON; Laurie Roy, Swift Current, SK; and Jodie (Keith) Cahoon, Halifax, NS; eight grandchildren: Aaron, Katherine, Carolyn, Paul (Trina), Tara (Jason), Jenna, Shawn and Laurena; four great-grandchildren: Makayla, Nathan, Annika and Kaiya; and one sister Rolly Free. He was predeceased by his wife Marian; his parents: Edward and Melvina; brothers: Rene and Gilbert; and sisters: Simone and Terry. He will be fondly remembered as a kind and gentle man. A memorial service took place on the morning of July 29 at the Saskatoon Funeral Home. Interment of cremated remains will take place at the cemetery in Luseland, SK.
