INGEBORG RUTH THEA RICHARDS (nee SIEWERT) May 16, 1929 - July 29, 2010 Our much loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully with her daughter at her side at the Grace Hospital on July 29, 2010. Remaining to forever cherish Ingeborg's memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Karin and Philip; granddaughter Keely (Stephen) with great-grandsons Cole and Easton; grandsons Christopher (Sheryl), Steven in United Kingdom as well as many friends in Europe. She was predeceased by her son Harry (1995); just recently her daughter-in-law Georgina (June) and also her close friend Arthur (1984). Mum was born in c, West Germany on May 16, 1929 to Albert (deceased 1976) and Wilhemine Siewert (1989) and grew up through the war years with much hardship but also with good times. She learned a lot of her life skills when at 14 she was shipped to Austria to look after a family with four children. She married at age 18 her soldier sweetheart Harry who took her to Salcombe, England as a war bride. Mum taught herself English by reading anything she could get hold of. Harry Jr. was born in 1948 and Karin followed in 1954. Although the marriage was not to last, the bond has remained strong to this end, with Dad and his wife, Joyce, being with Mum at the end. Mum then proceeded to make a life on her own becoming a Youth Employment Officer for local government in Nelson, Lancashire. Unfortunately, that was cut short, when she required bypass surgery and she never returned to work. Her next adventure occurred in 1992, when she was accepted to reside in Canada. She travelled extensively throughout Western Canada and U.S.A. and she was most proud to become a Canadian citizen in 1995. However, Mum's heart disease only got worse as the years passed and she found comfort in being in the home of her daughter and son-in-law. Even through all of this, she was a woman ahead of her time, always able to offer advice and always questioning current news. Her words of wisdom will be echoed for many years to come. She loved her family dearly and her two great-grandsons were the lights of her life. On Friday, August 6, 2010 a private family Service will be held in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Avenue at Sharp Boulevard. We wish to extend thanks to Dr. Michael Stephensen and his nurse, Leslie; Dr D. Inglis; Dr. Macek of the Grace Hospital along with nurses Christine, Val and Colleen on 5 North for their compassion and care in mum's final stay. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 0K6. We will miss you terribly Mum but know you are in a better place, meeting up with those who have gone before you. Night Night, God Bless - I love you - Karin

  • Hi Karin, It's eleven years after your mum's death and I found the obituary when doing family history. My interest is in the Kendall family and Gladys - your grandmother (unless I'm completely off-beam) - had 'gone missing'. Then I had another look at the Salcombe History Society website and found her. My mother's mother was a Kendall and somehow I was given the name as a middle name. It was my mother's cousin Muriel, daughter of a Kingsbridge Kendall who was one of several brothers who moved to London to build houses, who kept alive our interest in the Kendall family. Muriel's mother was a Sanders from Dartmouth and she had relatives in Torcross who, as we lived in Torquay, we'd visit from time to time. And, when in Salcombe in the 1960s, we would visit Mabel and May. I was a careers adviser which is what youth employment officers became. I worked in several places one of which was, when covering maternity leave, Nelson in Lancashire. Unknowingly, as it happens, in your mother's footsteps. Hope this reaches you after all this time.
