ANGELA CECILIA McDOUGALL (nee PUCHNIAK) 1922 - 2010 It is with heavy hearts that the children of Angela McDougall announce her passing on July 29, 2010 at the age of 88 years at home. Angela was born on February 9, 1922 in the family home at 705 Scotland Avenue, Winnipeg, the last of ten children born to Adalbert and Aniela Puchniak. Angela was predeceased by her loving husband Laveren (Sy) in 1997. She was not only the baby of the family but the last remaining member of her family of origin, having been predeceased by her twin sister Stephanie in May 1922 and parents Adalbert Wojciech Puchniak in 1958 and Aniela Horodyski Puchniak in 1972. She was predeceased by sisters Rose Skretkowicz Frances Stephen, Mary Jaworski, Jean Smith and her brothers Fr. Stanley Puchniak, Joseph, Bill, and Benny Puchniak. She is survived by her six children Louise Graham, Patsy Stockbrocks, Margie Thiessen (Bob), Gerry, Bobby (Deb), Teddy (Patti). She is also survived by 17 grandchildren: Pamela Shaw (Craig), Jennifer Graham, Stephen Graham (Annie), Andrew Graham (Carrie), Angela Graham (Kevin Moore), Matthew, Alison and Mark Stockbrocks, Shannon Schellenberg (Harold), Brittany Thiessen, Johnny McDougall, Antonia Fikkert, Ryan Huber (Amber), Cody Huber, Jessie, Dallas and Jaydee-Lynn McDougall, and nine great-grandchildren: Erin, Brenna and Caitlyn Shaw, Eric, Nathan and Wyatt Lamb, Abigail Graham, Luke Schellenberg and Nora Graham-Moore. She is also survived by many, nieces, nephews and three sisters-in-law Frances Puchniak of Montreal, Alice McDougall and Rose Puchniak of Winnipeg. Our beautiful Mom was musical, and loved to dance. As a teenager in the early 1940s she sang with a band and was known for her great voice. Storytelling was a special skill she had perfected and she was considered the life of the party' by all. Until recently she was always proud to call herself a night owl', often being the last one to leave a party. One of her favourite holidays was Halloween when she would dress up, put on masks and (challenge kids to sing a song) or scare kids at the door. She attended St. Ignatius School and St. Mary's Academy and worked at Moore's Fuel Yard as a dispatcher in 1940 when she met another co-worker Sy' who soon became the love of her life. They were married in April 1943 right in the midst of the Second World War. Angie' stayed home awaiting Sy's prayed for return, and often told of the anxiety of seeing the telegram boys come to different homes in the neighbourhood with envelopes edged in black to announce the death of a loved one overseas. She was known for beautiful dainties and fudge among other desserts. She was a great cook, always putting emphasis on the eye appeal' of a dish. In her later years, she enjoyed flying to British Columbia and seeing new places, good music, and reminiscing about old times. Angie's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the centre of her life. We all will miss her caring ways. Her passing leaves a very large void in our family - it is the end of an era. Angie was kind hearted, always stuck up for the underdog and had a strong faith. One of her favourite sayings was Never underestimate the power of prayer . Prayer vigil will be held on Monday, August 2 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Ignatius Church, Stafford at Corydon. There will also be a viewing prior to the funeral mass at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday morning. Friends and family are invited to attend Angela's funeral mass of the resurrection at St. Ignatius Church on Tuesday, August 3 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Gerry McDougall presiding, and Msgr. Stan Jaworski, her nephew, concelebrating, Interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bob Thiessen, Jessie, Dallas, and Johnny McDougall, Andrew Graham and Matthew Stockbrocks.
