EVELYN SAWCHUK (nee SCHWARTZ) September 20, 1937 - July 28, 2010 Evelyn passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning. Evelyn was predeceased by her loving husband, Walter. Mom dearly missed Dad, and now they are reunited. Evelyn was also predeceased by her mother and father, Frances and Joseph Schwartz; her brother, Leonard; and sisters, Marion and Lorna. Mom leaves to mourn her four children, Sandra (Philip) of Edmonton, Robert (Gretchen) of Sugarland, TX, Tracy (Chris) of Winnipeg, and Leanne (Ed) of Halifax. She was very proud of her four grandchildren, Zoe, Dylan, Wyatt and Danica. Evelyn is also survived by her siblings, Margaret, Gladys, Lilia, and Don. In her younger days, Mom enjoyed gardening and had the best roses. Her yellow roses were the best on the street! She greatly enjoyed bowling, a good game of cards, and summers at the beach. Mom was a very generous soul, sharing her homemade jams and pickles. Many a night was spent at the stove cooking perogies and cabbage rolls for family and friends. Mom loved animals, especially dogs. When she no longer had her own, she would always have treats in her purse for others. Mom was diagnosed with cancer in December 2009. With humour and courage, Mom stuck to her guns and was determined to live life her way. Her persistence and endurance surpassed the expectations of many. Her family and care providers were awed in how she persisted and thrived though many ups and downs. Mom was happy and grateful for the wonderful care she received from many health professionals. You are too numerous to name, but the family would also like to express our appreciation. A special thank you to Dr. Sharkey for all the years of care you provided for Mom. Pallbearers will be, Blake Dunn, Betty Guzej, Don Schwartz, Bob Szklaruk, Terry Waldner, and Jennifer Wiebe. As per Evelyn's wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 0R3, the Children's Wish Foundation, 350 St. Mary Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3J2, or the charity of your choice. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
