She will be lovingly remembered by her three sons, Ted (Sandra), Allan (Mavis) and Douglas; two granddaughters, Pam Gordon (Ken), Jennifer Engbrecht (Kurt); grandson Michael; and five great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Ewan, Kieran, Chelsea and Schaefer. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Ivy Ellingham and Hazel Leitkie; and her special friends in Cranbrook, Carole and Wilf Haberman. Clara Mae was born in the United States and moved to Winnipeg when she was 14 where she attended Norwood Collegiate. She met George when she was 17 and they were together for the next 79 years. They were married at St. Philips Anglican Church in 1938. During the 1950 flood, she took her three children back to stay with her relatives in Ranier, Minnesota for a month until they could return home. During the late 1950s and early 1960s, she was camp hostess at Anglican Summer Camp on Lake of the Woods near Kenora, Ontario. Two of her children were also on staff while she was there. In 1963, George and Clara Mae moved to Cranbrook, BC where they lived for the next 39 years. They travelled to Hawaii when Clara Mae was given this lovely trip as a retirement gift from the firm of architects who appreciated the work she did for them. In 1984, Clara Mae and George and their friend Ruth Walker went on what she called a trip of a lifetime' - a six week vacation to Great Britain, Greece and a cruise on the Mediterranean Sea. In 2002, George and Clara Mae returned to Winnipeg to be close to their son Allan, his wife Mavis, and their two granddaughters and their families. They spent four and one-half years together at Lindenwood Manor. Clara Mae's family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Oakview Place, where she spent her last three years. Cremation will take place on August 6 at Neil Bardal Inc., 3030 Notre Dame Ave. in Winnipeg, preceded by a private service with Rev. Dr. Brett Cane officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. NEIL BARDAL INC. (204) 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
