BETTY BRYDGES (nee CLEROUX) It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Betty Brydges on Sunday, July 25, 2010. Mom was born on July 30, 1932 in Ottawa, Ontario to Wilfred and Helen Cleroux. She will never be forgotten by her husband of 58 years, Hilliard; daughters, Carolyn (Gary), Brenda (Renold); sons, Colin (Suzanne) and Allan. Mom's memory will also be cherished by grandchildren, Natasha (Ryan), Krystle, Jessica, Kara-Lynn, Hilliard, Colin, Damion; and great-grandchildren, Krimson, Wynter and Haydn. Mom will also be missed by her sister Marie McCourt (Arnprior) and brother-in-law Bobby Brydges (Ottawa), as well as many nieces and nephews. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Helen Cleroux; her sister June Brazeau and special beloved pet Prince. Mom grew up in White Lake, Ontario where she attended White Lake School. Following school, Mom worked at the Arnprior Cabinet Factory where she met the love of her life, Hilliard. Hilliard and Betty married on August 15, 1952 and spent many happy years together at various Armed Forces postings throughout Canada and Europe. Mom was involved in a serious car accident in 1964 which necessitated the family to remain posted in Ottawa where Mom's medical specialists were located. Mom and Dad moved to Winnipeg in 1972 where they made their home. In Winnipeg, Mom worked at the Armed Forces Base until her retirement in 1995. She enjoyed golf, bowling, curling, fishing and spending time at the family cottage in Lac du Bonnet. Mom's health began to deteriorate and she was confined to a wheelchair in 1997 until her passing. All of Mom's health issues did not stop her from enjoying going to the casino, out to family functions with her oxygen in tow. Mom had an unbelievable sense of humour and if she wasn't teasing someone she wasn't satisfied. Mom spoke what was on her mind whether you wanted to hear it or not...if she liked you she really liked you but if she didn't, well there was always more room in her little black book . Mom was known by many names, Shirley Joan (later officially changed to Betty as that is what everyone called her anyway), Zelda, Woody, Mom, Grandma, Grammieo, Auntie and many affectionate names by Dad which he would not share with us. The family would like to thank Mom's nurses, Chris and Val and the various homecare workers over the past five years and especially Kathy, Linda, Barb, Ceu and Judy. On behalf of Mom we would like to thank the Riverview Health Centre for their excellent compassionate care towards Mom and our family. Mom was not always free with her praise but she definitely liked the staff at Riverview that is definitely saying something. A private family service has been held. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to, may make a donation to the Riverview Health Centre, One Morley Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 2P4, in Mom's name. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
