Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROSS FLETCHER LINKLATER (Fletch) Ross Fletcher Linklater (Fletch) passed away peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2010 at West Park Manor in Winnipeg, MB. Fletch will be lovingly remembered by Beverley, his wife of 62 years, his children Fraser (Joan), Shelagh (Don Nowicki) and Kerry (John De Pape), plus his seven grand-children Shannon Moses (Jamie), Kevin Linklater, Sam and Adam Nowicki, and Alexandra, Nicola and Andrew De Pape. Fletch was born June 14, 1922 on the farm in Cloverdale, MB, son of William and Ellen Linklater. He loved growing up on the farm with his brothers and beloved sister, Peg, but was eager to get off the farm and see the world. He moved to Winnipeg to complete his grade 12 at Jon Bjarnson Academy. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 and travelled overseas where he was stationed in England and France, taking part in the D-Day Invasion. After the War, Fletch enrolled in Civil Engineering at the University of Manitoba and married his sweetheart, Beverley Mitchell in 1948. Soon, their family started to grow and they bought their home on Bruce Avenue in Silver Heights where they lived until 2006. Fletcher became a land surveyor, first articling under Ralph Miller, eventually opening his own business with partner George Kilgour - Kilgour Linklater - surveying land developments and mining claims all over the province for almost thirty years. Fletch particularly enjoyed the rugged outdoor life of surveying in Northern Manitoba. After suffering a heart attack in 1981, he retired, enjoying playing golf and travelling with Beverley. Fletcher will always be remembered as a decent, honest and upright man, always fair in his dealings. He was greatly admired for his courage and determination and served as a role model for all. A graveside memorial will be held on August 3, 2010 at 12:00 noon at Cloverdale United Church at the Corner of Cloverdale Road and Pigeon Bluff Road, Selkirk, Manitoba. A reception will follow in the church basement. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Fletcher's honor to a charity of the donor's preference.
