Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHOWARD RAWLING LIDDICOAT Peacefully, on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at the Kelowna General Hospital after a serious fall, Howard Rawling Liddicoat passed away at the age of 87. Howard leaves to mourn his wife of 63 years Eva (nee St. Germain), one sister Sophie McCabe of Lloydminster, SK; sisters-in-law Rita Smith of Portage la Prairie, Thérèse Carpenter-Hunter (Bill) and Margaret-Rose Risbey (Arnie) of Winnipeg; brother-in-law Marcel St. Germain of Calgary and many nieces and nephews. Howard was predeceased by five brothers, George, Wesley, Clifford, Ivan, Clarence and one sister Anne. Howard was born on March 14, 1923 in Major SK. He spent most of his childhood in Neilburg, SK. Howard served in the Royal Canadian Army as an engineer with the 6th Field Division. He joined at 17 years old in 1941 in Saskatoon and trained in Calgary and Chilliwack. He left for overseas September 1942 after extended training. He left for England and was in the invasion of France January 6, 1944 and then right through to Germany when the war ended. He came home February 1946. Howard left for Ontario, but stopped in Manitoba where he met his wife Eva, of Baie St. Paul East, and they were married at St. Eustache R.C. Church. Howard worked at Great Lakes Paper in Ontario for 43 years until he retired in 1988 and moved to Kelowna. Howard was a devout member of Holy Spirit R.C. Church in Kelowna. He volunteered for ten years driving parishioners to Church when they were unable to go on their own. Howard was a very kind, generous and likable man and would always help anybody in need. He belonged to the Canadian Legion Branch #5, Thunder Bay, ON, Great Lakes and Woodlands Charity Fund and President for ten years, member of Lumber and Sawmill Workers Union Local 2693 for 32 years. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. Pallbearers will be his nephews Andy Larkin, Howard Larkin, Dean Smith, Marcel St. Germain, Curtis Risbey, and Derek Risbey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gordon Smith, John Larkin and Barry Carpenter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3A 1P6.
