PAUL LUCKO SR. November 10, 1927 - July 30, 2010 Peacefully, on Friday, July 30, 2010 Paul Sr. passed away at Lion's Prairie Manor in Portage la Prairie at the age of 82. Left to cherish his memory are his sister Mary (Jack); son Paul Jr. (Helene); grandchildren Laryssa and Christine and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Paul was predeceased by his beloved wife Luba Lovie ; brothers Mike (Olga); Walter; Steve (Anne); John; Bill (Edna) and sisters Stella (Stanley) and Anne (Gerry). Paul was born on November 10, 1927 in Sclater, Manitoba to Andrew and Anastasia Lucko. He was the baby of the family and was devoted to his parents. In fact devotion to family is one of the things that defined Paul. In his quiet and thoughtful way, Dad always strove to do what was best for his family. Dad often spoke fondly of some of his earlier ventures as a young man, from selling hand churned ice cream at the dances down on the farm to working the Roller Coaster at Winnipeg Beach in the summers. In 1952 he married Lovie and they tried their hands at the hotel business with The Assiniboine Lodge at Grand Beach. The love of the beaches eventually resulted in the building of a family cottage at Grand which became the setting for many gatherings of both family and friends. After settling down, Paul embarked on the next chapter that would define his life - ice. Specifically making ice and managing the Fort Rouge Curling Club. Paul spent thirty-some years at the Rouge and met and worked with some very good people along the way. The curling club was Paul's second home and he truly enjoyed the years he spent there and the friendships he made. After retiring, Paul enjoyed spending more time at the cottage and travelling. He enjoyed the trips that he and Lovie took with the Koshetz Choir, as well as hopping across the line to do a little gambling. Unfortunately the last years of Dad's life were defined by Alzheimers disease, but even as we watched the man we loved fade, he always would light up and his eyes would have a special twinkle for his two precious granddaughters. Paul will be sorrowfully missed, but we pray that he finds peace eternal in God's care. Many thanks to Parkside staff at the Lion's Prairie Manor for their wonderful care of Dad. Prayers will be held at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 1175 Main Street in Winnipeg, on Thursday, August 5 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral on Friday, August 6 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire donations may be made in Paul's memory to the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba. Vichna'ya Pam'yat KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
