ALEXANDER MCTAVISH GIBB Sadly, our much loved Poppy passed away at 188 on Monday, August 2, 2010. Sandy is predeceased by his wife Shirley and son David. Missing him forever are daughters Jennifer and Catherine, sons-in-law Bryan and Jack, grandchildren Christine (Kris), Patti (Graham), Jennifer (Jesse), David, and Andrew. Born Christmas Day 1925 the world welcomed a great man. At a young age Alexander McTavish Gibb (Sandy) known as Pop emerged into the world of sport and performed at a high level of excellence for decades. His abilities and contributions to Track Field and Soccer earned him entrance into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame. His family is very proud of this amazing accomplishment. Pop's career choice as a toy buyer quickly gained him the reputation as the toyman . Christmas was filled with wonderful surprises for all. Pop was one of the most generous people who always gave of himself and his time without hesitation. This founder of two established golf events, the Winnipeg Toy Golf and the Woodhaven Community Golf Tournaments was about promoting community and love of one's neighbour. St. Aidan's Anglican Church held a special place in Pop's heart, where he served as a greeter and collector, and participated in a bible study. Most important to this man was family. He taught us to love each other deeply. We were never to say goodbye but only to say so long . Pop's walk in life uplifted, encouraged, and brightened everyone's day. Those who knew Pop, loved him! A memorial service to say so long to Pop will be held Friday, August 6, 11:00 a.m. at St. Aidan's Anglican Church, 274 Campbell.
