DR. MALCOLM FRASER MCINNES 1926 - 2010 Peacefully, at age 84, surrounded by loved ones, at Riverview Health Centre after a lengthy illness. Son of John William (Jack) and Greta Beryl McInnes, Malcolm grew up and attended school in East Kildonan and central Winnipeg, raised alone by his mother after his father died in 1930. In 1945, he trained with the Canadian Forces as a parachutist with the Airborne Paratroops, and served briefly in Halifax at the end of the war. He went on to study medicine at the University of Manitoba, and later specialized in Internal Medicine which he practiced at the Manitoba Clinic until his retirement in the mid-90s. Besides his active professional and family life, Malcolm was the quintessential life-long learner , always pursuing new skills and interests, including carpentry, landscape painting, classical guitar, cycling, photography, sailing, wine-making, flying, skiing, and mountaineering. His passion for the arts, music, and travel has been embraced by his children and grandchildren, and he always followed their accomplishments with great pride and enthusiasm. Although Malcolm considered that he was probably dyslexic as a child, he had great command of language and was an excellent writer. In his later years, he took up creative writing and wrote a much-valued autobiography and family history. Despite his declining health and mobility in his 70s, Malcolm carried on with all of his activities and interests with courage and determination. He was always interested in peoples' stories, whether friends, patients, or caregivers, and they in turn appreciated and were charmed by his interest and enthusiasm, and great sense of humour. Predeceased by his parents and Aunt Lillian May McInnes, Ada (nee McDowell), his beloved first wife and mother of his children, and second wife Georgeanna (Hamilton). Malcolm is survived by his four children, Alison, John (Qin), Julia, and Catherine (Bob), and eight grandchildren, Ainsley, Kate, Emily, Chloe, Jessica, Sarah, Zachary, and Kyle, and his former wife and longtime companion Helga. Special thanks to Holly Mackie and Dr. Paul Galbraith for the friendship, love, and support they gave to Malcolm. The family will always be indebted to each member of the staff of CD4 and others at Riverview Health Centre for their excellent and compassionate care over the last 17 months. Many thanks also to Chaplain Tim Frymire for his spiritual comfort and guidance. A memorial service to celebrate Malcolm's life will be held on Tuesday, August 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverview Health Centre Chapel with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to charitable causes that directly serve those in need, such as the Red Cross, Salvation Army, Humane Society, or other preferred organization. 843 Sherbrook Street Condolences: www.bardal.ca

  • I am your cousin who phoned your father Malcolm many years ago now, out of the blue. I had found a note with his name written in pencil on the back of one of my grandmother’s old postcards, and that he lived in Winnipeg. I am the family’s relative hunter and your Dad and myself exchanged family records back and forth for years. We lost touch. Today I decided to see if I could find a record for him. I did expect to find he had passed. I can remember how thrilled he was to receive my call that day. He said he had lost all hope of finding his family again. No one knew where they had gone. Such a sad story about the 1950’s Winnipeg flood that destroyed all the family records his Aunts had stored in their basement. Anyways, I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed all our years of correspondence by snail mail. I am now turning 70 and still researching the family and have recently added two more who had also been lost over time. I am always delighted to meet new family if you ever wish to make contact. - Posted by: Pam Hill (Distant cousin ) on: Mar 19, 2021
