VI TAYLOR (nee SMITH) 1924 - 2010 Passed away unexpectedly, at her home, on June 6, 2010 at the age of 85. Formerly of Glen Roy, ON, Vi leaves behind her sons Richard and Greg; her daughter Sandi and son-in-law Gary Fehr; her grandchildren Marilee, Nathan and Elena Fehr and Robin Taylor; her sister Chris Sova, and brothers Alex and Don Smith. She was predeceased by her husband Ross Taylor. Vi was a fiesty and determined person. Never do tomorrow what you can do today, was her life motto. She was always up for a challenge, and endeavored to be very positive. Vi stayed both physically and mentally active right up to her death. She took senior's courses at the University of Winnipeg. She also took up yoga at the age of 80, and pool as a pastime at 83. Vi was born and raised in the farming community of Glen Roy, ON. She completed Grade 11 of high school and continued on to take accounting and secretarial training. She worked in the local banks before moving to Montreal, where she met her husband, Ross Taylor. Ross was in the Army, and the couple were posted to Calgary, Regina, Whitehorse, Shilo, and Winnipeg between 1948 and 1963. During these years, Vi raised her two sons, and later her daughter, while working part time as a bank teller or secretary. She was affectionately known as the sargeant of the family, although it was her husband who was actually in the military. Vi and Ross took an active role in the Manitoba Waterski Association during the 1950s and 1960s. Vi's volunteer work included supporting her childrens' schools, the Deer Lodge Centre, the Nearly New Shop, and the Conservative Party of Manitoba. In the 1980s she became very involved with ITC (Toastmistresses), attending conferences in the USA and Canada. Vi was a wonderful grandmother who spent time teaching her grandchildren to cook and sew. She will be missed as a companion, a mother, and a friend. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Lion's Centre or CancerCare Manitoba. A memorial service will be held on August 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Margaret's Anglican Church on Westminster Avenue in Wolseley, with reception to follow at 510 Sprague Street.
