COLLEEN MARIE BREY (DUBOIS) September 24, 1943 - August 1, 2010 On Sunday, August 1, 2010 Colleen Brey, after a lengthy illness, passed away peacefully at her home in Grand Rapids, MB with her husband Siegfried (Sigi) at her side. She will be remembered fondly by son Michael (Gwen) and their son, Justin of Winnipeg; her son Rick of Hudson, WI; sister Liz of Australia; brother-in-law Gunter Brey (Liyla) and family of Winnipeg; along with her many grandchildren. Colleen was predeceased by her parents (1957) and daughter Michelle Baeur (2005). Colleen was born in Toronto, ON on September 24, 1943 to Margaret and Lorne McDonald. When Colleen was young the family moved to Fort William, ON, where she grew up and went to school. Colleen married at a young age to Ernie Dubois and they had one son. When this marriage dissolved she moved to Winnipeg. Colleen started working at Yellow Cab as a telephone operator and met Sigi, who was working as cab driver. The two of them started living a full and vivid life. Colleen followed Sigi to live in Grand Rapids in 1971. Soon after moving to Grand Rapids, Colleen became involved with setting up and running the volunteer ambulance service. She loved this work. Colleen also worked as bartender at the Wescanna Hotel, now known as the Northbrook, she held the position of Secretary for the Manitoba Trappers Association with Archie Cinq Mars as her boss, and she also worked with the Grand Rapids R.C.M.P. as a guard. Many friends will mourn the loss of Colleen. Her special friends include Gretchen Kutzner of Winnipeg, Addi Dion of Winnipeg, and Betty Calyn of Grand Rapids along with many others. The family would like to say a special Thank You to all the staff at the Grand Rapids Nursing Station and staff at The Pas Health Complex for their support during Colleen's time of dealing with her illness. We would also like to say special thanks to Dr. Marie Noel for all her support. As per her wishes, Colleen will be cremated and interred at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Colleen wished that donations could be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3.
