EDITH R. YOUNG Edith Rogers Young, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at 97 years of age. Edith was predeceased by her husband, George, her parents, Ethel and David, and her brothers, Bob and David. For 15 years prior to her marriage, Edith worked at Great West Life. After her husband's death in 1960, Edith worked at the St. James Public Library where she became head of the Reference Department and later head of the Westwood branch library, retiring in 1977. After she retired, Edith remained very active: babysitting; volunteering with the Craft Guild of Manitoba; delivering Meals on Wheels; attending lectures at the University of Winnipeg; and being involved with U.C.W. activities at St. James United Church. Edith enjoyed travelling in Canada and to other parts of the world but her favourite place was the lake (Lake of the Woods, Matlock or Gimli). Edith was happiest being Nannie and Aunt Dede. She adored her grandchildren, Alexandra, David, and Kristina. Recently, Nannie had been looking forward to the birth of her first great-grandchild and was happy to hold Annalilja. Left to cherish her memory are her children: David Young; Margaret (Marvin) Eyolfson, and her grandchildren: Alexandra (Jason), David (Carly), Kristina (Eric), and her great-granddaughter: Annalilja. The family is grateful to the Home Care workers who helped her to continue to live in her home for an additional three and a half years, and to the staff of Oakview Place where she resided for the last four months. Two of Edith's favourite charities were Rossbrook House, 658 Ross Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3A 0M1 and Kathy Knowles OSU Children's Library Fund, 188 Montrose St., Winnipeg, MB R3M 3M7. Edith's funeral service took place Friday, July 23, 2010 at St. James United Church, 234 Parkview St. with Rev. Don Johnson officiating. Interment followed at Elmwood Cemetery.
