SAMUEL JOSEPH MCCONNELL January 4, 1941 - August 8, 2010 It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, son-in-law, brother, uncle and grandfather Samuel Joseph McConnell. Sam will be greatly missed by his wife of 42 years, Paulette; children Colleen (Curtis Headland), Brendan (Erin O'Brien), and two very special grandchildren Grace and Caden Headland. He also leaves to mourn one sister Pearl (Gerry Passey); brothers Ray (Judy) and Brian (Cathy); sister-in-law Connie (Larry Butler); mother-in-law Stella Cook; numerous nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Sarah McConnell and father-in-law Paul Cook. Sam was born in Ballymena, Northern Ireland. He immigrated to Canada with his parents when he was six years old and kept his love for Irish music and culture. He was a dedicated husband, father, son-in-law and grandfather who enjoyed summers with his family at the cottage in Petersfield. Sam took great pride in spoiling his two grandchildren and spending as much time as possible with them. At the beginning of his career, Sam was employed with CBC as a performer, singing and dancing on various television programs such as Happyland, Red River Jamboree, Music Hop and Pan Americana. He followed in his family footsteps teaching dancing. Sam was also a loyal employee of T. Eaton Co. for over 25 years until his retirement. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the W.R.H.A. Palliative Care Program for their support and kindness. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. In keeping with Samuel's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. A casual gathering for family and friends will be held on Friday, August 13 between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. in the Irish Association of Manitoba, 654 Erin Street. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Sam was my second dance teacher after his father. He taught Irish Tap at Orioles community centre long before it was a trend. He taught me discipline and the joy of dance and of course the love of Irish music. I will be forever grateful for his patience and dedication. - Posted by: Dorothy Kufflick (student) on: Feb 24, 2018
