ARNOLD (ARNIE) GUSTAV CARLSON Arnold Carlson Arnie as his friends knew him, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2010, at the age of 69 years after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. Arnold was born February 2 1941 in Winnipeg and grew up in Pine Falls, Manitoba, the oldest son of Gus Carlson and Mary Carlson (Becker). Throughout his life Arnold had worn many hats. Big brother, husband, father, uncle and good friend to many people. Arnold held many careers throughout his life most notably Atomic Energy Canada and most recently with Canadian Pacific Rail as an engineer for 30 years. Further to that working in the family business for many years alongside his father, younger brother, younger sisters, and sons in the wild rice farming industry. During his leisure time he was an avid fisherman, hunter and experienced outdoorsman. He dedicated himself to his family, friends, and volunteering for numerous charity organizations. After retiring in 2001 from Canadian Pacific he continued to fill his time with family, friends, and volunteering for local community clubs, and charities. Arnold will be forever remembered by his family and all of his numerous friends as a hard working and dedicated person, who touched so many lives with his unique brand of humour, wisdom and charm. Donations in Memory of Arnold Carlson can be made to Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I'm following the path God laid for me. I took his hand when I heard his call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way, I've found that peace at the end of the day. If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah, yes, these things too I will miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My Life's been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free. Author - Unknown A very special thank you to all the staff at CPL Poseidon Care Centre, 2nd floor Nursing, Dr. Smart, The Social Workers and Support teams for the exceptional care, compassion and dignity that have provided to Arnold Dad over the last number of years.
