MARILYN BROTHERTON (nee MOFFATT) In the early hours of Wednesday, August 11, 2010, Marilyn passed away peacefully at the Charleswood Care Centre with her family together, holding cherished memories in their hearts. Remaining to forever cherish Marilyn's memory are her three children, Lisa (Ron Marin), Margaret (Bob Rettie), Robert, four grandchildren, Tyson and Leah Rettie, Alana and Rick Marin; sister-in-law Mary Moffatt; niece Jennifer Shindle as well as the extended Brotherton/Moffatt families. She was predeceased by her parents, H. Leonard Moffatt and Audrey Fraser Moffatt; brother, John, and most recently her husband Bob. Marilyn was a loving, intelligent and strong-willed woman. Over the 75 years of her life, her accomplishments were many. She graduated from nursing from the Ottawa Civic Hospital, followed by a long career as a registered nurse in Winnipeg. Marilyn concluded her nursing career at the University of Manitoba Health Centre where she very much enjoyed her interactions with students and faculty. In 1956 Marilyn and Bob were married in Winnipeg and over the years lived in Dryden, Kenora, Winnipeg, Regina and Brandon. After lovingly raising their three children, they happily settled 30 years ago on their acreage outside of Headingley, where they very much enjoyed the country life. Over many years, Bob and Marilyn were very active in the dog breeding and dog show communities, breeding Kerry Blue Terriers that were loved by families and judges alike! She was very creative and an excellent seamstress, sewing many enviable outfits for herself and the children as they were growing up, as well as curtains, chair cushions and anything else she could create by hand to add her special touch to the home. Marilyn was an entrepreneur, developing a very successful on-line internet pet supply business, Pinnacle Pet Supply. She created her business website, had great computer skills and was always striving for ways to improve communication and provide excellent service to her clients. She made connections with many people from all over the world who would contact her for her expertise on the care of dogs and the whelping of puppies. She was very proud of her business and also very disappointed when her failing health kept her from continuing on with this important part of her life. In previous years, Mom greatly enjoyed participating in the annual fundraising dinner theatres at the Headingley United Church, where she played piano and helped bring together the musical score. She had many fond memories (and pictures) of these productions. On Saturday, August 14, 2010 Marilyn's Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Headingley United Church, 110 Bridge Road, Headingley, MB. Mom was blessed with many good friends throughout the years and we would like to offer our special thanks to: Pat, Kim, Barbra and Jim, Blanche, Ruth and Reid, Chris, Odile, Paul and Janet. Also thank you to the staff at Headingley Home Care, Sturgeon Creek Residence, Home Instead Senior Care, the Grace Hospital and the Charleswood Personal Care Home for their care of Mom over the last year. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marilyn's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3.
