Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT WALTER JONES October 3, 1927 - August 6, 2010 Peacefully at the age of 82 years, Bob passed away on Friday, August 6, 2010, at the St. Boniface Hospital with his family at his side. Bob will be sadly missed by his wife of 57 years, Barbara, son Keith (Bonnie) of Calgary, granddaughter Amy (Mark) Roseneder, great-granddaughter Chloe, grandson Matt, stepgrandsons Michael and Steven Clark; and daughter Donna (Ralph) Nespor of Stonewall, grandsons Cory (Marjorie) and Brett, granddaughters Kristy (Dan), Jodi (Brian), and Rikki (Brandon). Robert was born in St. James, Manitoba to Walter and Laura Jones (Konenko). He was the fourth child of the family and excelled in academia. He received several Scholarships in High School and University. He graduated with an Honours degree in Chemistry from the University of Manitoba in 1950. He joined A.E.C.L. after graduation and went to work at the Chalk River facility. Shortly after beginning his career, he met Barb in Deep River where they were married in 1952. In 1963 his work with A.E.C.L. took him back home to the Province of Manitoba (Pinawa). Through his career he worked in a number of areas for A.E.C.L. including analytical chemistry, fuel development, R D, and in his later years the commercial office. Bob had a strong work ethic and was a highly motivated man, working hard to provide for his family. His greatest passion was the outdoors and travelling. He spent many hours in the winters cross country skiing with his friends, developing trails and shelters throughout the back country surrounding Pinawa where a trail named Jones-Graham-Gauthier Freeway was established. He loved hiking in the Canadian Rockies and the entire family would travel to the Rockies for summer vacations. Bob passed this enthusiasm and quest for adventure onto his children. Bob retired from A.E.C.L. in 1985 and had a long list of countries to visit in the coming years. Bob and Barb travelled the world together including Europe, Russia, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, and Hawaii. The family would like to thank Dr. Petkau and the staff at the Pinawa Hospital for their kindness, sensitivity and comfort. We would also like to thank Dr. Garland, Dr. Brown and Nurse Kim Edmonds of the ICU and the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for their incredible support and compassion. A celebration of Robert's life will be held at a later date. Further announcements will follow. Messages of condolences may be forwarded to the family at jonesr@granite.mb.ca.
