Date of Passing: Aug 09, 2010
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGINA CONSTANCE CONTANT (nee BROWN) Mercifully, at the Grace Hospice, early in the morning of Monday, August 9, 2010, Georgina passed away after a long and valiant battle. Remaining to forever cherish Georgina's memory is her only daughter, Georgina Gina Anne Brown; her devoted son-in-law Steven Lee Branch of Cambridge, Ontario and her little Yorkie, Kiwi. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Eugene Contant in 2004; parents Anne (nee Klippenstein) and George Brown as well as two of her brothers. Georgina was born and raised in Winnipeg, moving as a young adult to Los Angeles, then returning to Winnipeg in the early 1960s. Over the years, she continued to visit California often, holidaying there with Gina and Steve as recently as 2007. After graduating from General Byng High School in Fort Garry, and winning the Robert Fletcher Memorial Bursary, Georgina attended Business College. She then worked in jobs of an administrative capacity - as dental/office assistant for Dr. Rumberg, at the Manitoba Legislature, and in human resource departments of two large companies in California. Upon her return to Winnipeg, Georgina became Administrative Assistant in the Faculty of Agriculture. She concluded her career as Registrar of St. John's Anglican College. Interacting with the students was Georgina's favourite component of both her positions at the University of Manitoba. After her retirement, Georgina devoted her time to her award-winning perennial gardens, caring for her pets, enjoying good books, a passion for cooking, and her appreciation of music - pursuits which were shared by her husband John, and enjoyed by all those who were close to her. On Saturday, September 11, 2010 a Celebration of Georgina's Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. in Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch Avenue at Mount Royal Road. For those who wish, parking will be available in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church parking lot located on Ness Avenue, followed by a reception in the Church hall. A Private Interment will be held at a later date. We wish express our gratitude for the kind and compassionate support by the entire staff of Grace Hospice, which allowed Georgina's last months to be as pleasant and comfortable as possible. You all went above and beyond any of her expectations, and made the rough road so much easier to bear for all of us. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations in Georgina's memory may be made to D'Arcy's Animal Rescue Centre, 730B Century Street, Winnipeg, or a charity of their choice.
