MINNIE BLANCHARD (nee CARTER) Peacefully on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at the Third Crossing Manor, Mrs. Minnie Blanchard of Portage la Prairie passed away at the age of 88 years. She was predeceased by her husband William, son Ronald and sister Lillian and is survived by her daughter Lillian (Ron) Westling of Lethbridge, AB, son Robert Blanchard (Gisele Hagman) of Portage la Prairie, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, brother Albert (Josie) Carter of Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England as well as nieces and nephews. Minnie was born in Manchester, England and grew up in London, England. She served in the Woman's Auxiliary Air Force during the Second World War. In 1947 she came to Canada and married William in 1949. She farmed with her husband in the Katrime District until moving to Portage la Prairie in 1959. They operated the Victory Grocery until 1991 when she retired. Minnie enjoyed reading, playing VLT's, bicycling, and listening to classical and opera music. Public Visitation will be held at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Monday, August 16, 2010 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel led by Lieutenant Jeff Arkell. Interment is to follow at Katrime Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Minnie's memory to the Portage Salvation Army, Box 476, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3B7 or to a charity of choice.
