Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER BARLISHEN Peter Barlishen of Selkirk, MB passed away peacefully, on August 11, 2010, with family at his side, at the age of 95 years. Peter was born near Amsterdam, SK on June 14, 1915. He had two brothers, two sisters, two stepbrothers and three half brothers. He moved to Manitoba and married Doreen Luchenko in 1937 in Ninette. He did farm work until joining the CPR in Killarney in 1941. He served in the Canadian Army from 1943 to 1946 returning to the CPR spending 22 years in Killarney before moving to a number of small towns, as section Foreman then settling in 1969 in Selkirk. He and Doreen had many fond memories of Holmfield, Camp Morton, Riverton, and Winnipeg Beach. Peter retired in 1975 and lived in his own house until May 2010. He and Doreen brightened the lives of many through their weekly visits to the Betel Home and Tudor House with their renditions on the harmonica and in song. In addition to his volunteering, Peter attended Grace Baptist Church, and curled with the Seniors for 27 years. His prolific garden provided unending delights to family and friends, particularly his raspberries and strawberries. Peter was predeceased by his wife Doreen in 1991 and granddaughter Amy in 2002. He is survived by sons Franklin (Diane) of Winnipeg and James (Edie) of Lundbreck, AB, five grandchildren Kim (Mark), Chris (Wendy), Cameron (Melanie), Sarah, Craig (Danielle) and seven great-grandchildren Kevin, Kira, Carter, Claire, Colten, Zoey, and Anders. Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 16, 2010 at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk, MB at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Pastor Jacob Wiebe. Pallbearers will be Chris Barlishen, Cameron Barlishen, Mark Sagan, Kevin Sagan, Jake Unrah, and Wilfred Martin. The family would like to extend special thanks to Doctor Antonenko for her compassion and to his dear neighbour Lily who was a constant support. Special thanks to the staff at the Selkirk Betel Home. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
