DOROTHY ETHEL RUBIDGE It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Dora Rubidge, on August 9, 2010 at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Ashern, MB with family by her side. Left to cherish her memory are her five children; Terry and wife Elaine, Dali and husband John Shiells, Tracy and husband Robert Filion, Rick, Vanna and friend Pierre Beaudoin; eight grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren; sister Evelyn Shiells; brother-in-law Del Ostafichuck; sisters-in-law Ila Gemmel and Eunice Clyde along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Stan Rubidge in 1981, sister Judy Ostafichuck, brother Charlie Woods, parents Stanley and Lydia Woods, and brother-in-law Earl Shiells. Mom was born in Steep Rock, Manitoba on February 7, 1935 the eldest daughter of four. She grew up and attended school in Steep Rock becoming a permit teacher and teaching for a short time in Inwood, Manitoba. Mom met and married Dad in July of 1955 and they began their lives together in Dad's home town of Miami, Manitoba where they started their family. In 1964 Mom and Dad moved to Steep Rock and eventually purchased their first farm in Moosehorn, later moving to Grahamdale as the farm grew. Mom was a woman of many talents; a fabulous cook for a kitchen that was always full, a gardener, a farm hand working at Dad's side, a friend to everyone and always had an open door to all who came into her life. Mom worked as a bartender, caretaker and a foster parent to many needy children. She also worked tirelessly at the Beachside Cafe. Mom was patient and caring and enjoyed being part of her children lives helping us out no matter what crazy stunts we did. She had a way of keeping us all connected and teaching us the importance of family. Right to the very end Mom kept her wonderful sense of humour and shared words of wisdom with us all. Later in life Mom moved to the Ashern Pioneer Manor where she spent her retirement years. We would like to thank Dr. Johan Rauch and the third floor nursing staff of the Dauphin Regional Hospital as well as Dr. Samir Ramadan and staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Ashern for the special care and compassion you showed to mom while in your care. Thank you to the many home care workers that touched Mom's life over the last few years. She often spoke of many of you fondly and we appreciated your watchful eyes. And how do we ever thank our Aunties Eunice and Evelyn who held us together during this difficult time We love you. And last but not least a Very Special THANK YOU to Mom's Secret Friend. Your generous gifts over the years touched Mom's heart. She was so moved that someone thought so much of her. Thank you from us all. Thank you to John and Karen from Arnason Funeral Home for all your kindness and help during this difficult time. A celebration of Mom's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 16, 2010 at the Grahamdale Community Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating.
