JOSEPH DMYTERKO June 10, 1922 - August 14, 2010 Uncle Joe passed away peacefully after a brief illness with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Gabriel, brothers Mykieta, John and wife Olena, Michael and wife Minnie and nieces Tania, Sophie and Elizabeth. He will be greatly missed by numerous nieces and nephews. Uncle Joe was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1935 with his parents and brothers. Settling west of Fisher Branch they took up farming and cutting and hauling pulp for the Winnipeg market. He attended Maidstone School. In 1943 he received training with the Canadian Army at Portage la Prairie and Montreal. He was later posted to St. John's, Newfoundland until 1945 when the war ended and he returned to Manitoba. Uncle Joe was always industrious and could find work quite easily. This led him to the logging and salmon fishing areas of British Columbia. The 1960s introduced millwright work to Uncle Joe and he obtained his Red Seal in 1973. He worked as a millwright until his retirement in 1986. Visiting family, boating and fishing were some of his favourite pastimes. He was a kind man, generous to all his family. His unique sense of humour remains with all those who knew him. Memorial Prayers will be held at Fisher Funeral Home, Fisher Branch at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 18. Memorial Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 19. Interment at Christian Community Cemetery.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Uncle Joe was both a generous and shy man. He loved his family, and was always there with a smile, a kind word, and a joke. He loved boating, and was happy to have the children out water skiing behind his boat. He was also happy when fishing with the men. He was grateful for the family's move to Canada from Poland, where life had become very difficult. He loved Canada, and all that the country had to offer. - Posted by: Tania Sablatash (Niece) on: Nov 12, 2014
