HELEN LOSTOWSKY (nee NEUDORF) On August 13, 2010 at Seven Oaks General Hospital, Helen passed away peacefully with family by her side. She was predeceased by her father Jakob, mother Margareta, brothers Abram and Dietrich, and sister Margareta. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Peter, daughter Linda Gaba (Peter), son Jerry (Penny Chase), grandsons Paul and Michael, brother Herman (Marilyn) and many extended family members in Canada and Germany. Helen was born on November 10, 1930 in the town of Osterwick, Ukraine. At a young age during the war she and her brother Herman were separated from the rest of the family and were later sponsored to immigrate to Canada in 1949. They ended up on a farm north of Winnipeg where work was hard and benefits very little. After six months and no more work for Helen, the farmer took her to Winnipeg where she found work and eventually saved up enough money to send for her brother Herman. This is where Helen met the love of her life, Peter at a dance at the U.N.F. club on Main Street where Peter was playing violin in the orchestra. They soon married and had Linda and Jerry. Helen's main joy in life was looking after her children. Throughout her life Helen took on many jobs, such as babysitting, cleaning and even assembling carburetors. Besides all of this she always had work at home which included sewing, cooking, renovating, painting, etc. Helen always liked to keep busy. In her spare time she did crocheting, knitting and petit point which kept her up into the wee hours of the morning. There was no job that she would not tackle. Family meant everything to Helen. When she later found out that she had family that survived the war she strived to keep sending packages of items that they could use. Helen had a great voice and loved to sing. She and daughter Linda sang with Mike Zajac on two albums accompanied by husband Peter on violin, son Jerry on accordion, and friend Lawrence on guitar. Other recreational activities included the occasional trip to bingo or the casino. Helen will always be remembered as a kind and loving wife, mother, Baba and friend who would always give as much as she could. Her amazing cooking will also not be forgotten. Helen loved to collect angels, and said that you could never have enough angels. Mom's angel collection has just been increased by one. Divine Liturgy celebrating Helen's life will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 19 at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Ave. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 4535 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. VICHNAYA PAMYAT Eternal Memory KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
