The family, with great sorrow announces the peaceful passing of Lorne Bland, 62 years, on August 17, 2010 at the Hunter Memorial Hospital in Teulon, MB after a courageous battle with liver cancer. Left to mourn Lorne's passing are his beloved wife of 31 years, Janice (nee Matson). His brothers Wayne Bland (wife Rose), Rick Bland (fiancee Katherine), twin sister Linda Sawchuk (Ron (predeceased), Shannon Bland. Also mourning Lorne's passing are sisters -in-law Artelle Bland, Barbara Skogan (Lawrence), Shirley Matson, brother-in-law John Matson (Glenys), many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins. Lorne will be greatly missed by good friends Edna Lamoureux, Terry Guntel, Jack Coverdale and Albert Strick. Lorne will also be greatly missed by his best pal Scruffy , who was always by his side. Lorne was predeceased by his beloved daughter Stacey Bland (1998), his parents John Irwin Bland (1976) and Rhoda Bland (nee Higginson) (1989), brother Robert Terrance (Terry) Bland (1997). Also predeceased by his mother-in-law Eileen Matson, father-in-law Stephen Matson, brothers-in-law Wayne Matson, and David Matson. Also predeceased by his paternal grandparents John Thomas Bland, Rita Sheppard, and maternal grandparents Ruscoe Higginson and Kathleen Higginson. Lorne was born in Neepawa, MB on June 2, 1948. The family lived in Rivers for awhile and then in 1956 moved to Transcona. After school Lorne worked as an electronic technician for Manitoba Telephone for 31 years. Lorne married the love of his life Janice in 1979 and they moved to Inwood where, after retiring from MTS, he operated a small motor repair business out of his home. Lorne was well known throughout the Interlake area and really enjoyed being in his pool league, motorcycles, the quiet life out in the country, and the daily communications with all his coffee buddies (you know who you are). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 21 at 11:00 a.m. at the Inwood Community Hall. Pastor Claire Speary will officiate. The family would like to extend many thanks to the Health Sciences Centre, Dr. Gordon, the Hunter Memorial Hospital, Dr. Rizk and all support staff for their excellent care. Loving thanks to brother and best friend Wayne for all his unwavering support during this very trying time.
