GARRY DAVID MACDONALD September 9, 1947 - August 15, 2010 Suddenly and peacefully we announce with deep sorrow the passing of Garry David MacDonald. Remaining to forever cherish Garry's memory is his loving family: wife Cathy; daughter Michelle (Sam), grandsons Kai and Tre; son Darrell (Angela), grandson Alex, granddaughter Kayla; siblings, many nieces, nephews; Cathy's sons Ryan and Kevin and her family, as well as a lot of dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents Winifred MacDonald (Dunford) and John G. MacDonald, and sister Jackie Abear (MacDonald). Garry was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was the second youngest of eight children and grew up in St. James. He loved sports but had a true passion for hockey. Although Garry was unable to play the game himself as a result of polio, he spent many of his adult years coaching and teaching the fundamentals of the sport he enjoyed so much to loved ones and many others. Surviving many challenges throughout his life, one of Garry's greatest challenges, while facing certain medical obstacles, was being a single father to his two children in his early 30s. He will be tremendously missed. On Friday, August 20, 2010 Garry's Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3L 0K6 or The Canadian Wildlife Federation at www.cwf-fcf.org. We love you Dad and will forever miss your loving smile and warm embrace. Love Always, Michelle and Darrell. Dear Hunna, My life will never be the same without you. You are my husband; my best friend and I will love you forever . Until we meet again. Love Cathy.

  • I still have this image of you trying to out run every one on the football team when we were kids. Kirkfield vs Sturgeon Creek. What a motley crew we were. You may have had a tough start in life Garry, but you did not let that get in your way. You wanted to prove to everyone that anything you could, I could better and you did most of the time. You just couldn't out run me cuz...I ran faster scared than you did gloating. Say hello to Dad for us. - Posted by: Wayne Dunford (Family) on: Aug 19, 2010
