VERA GRACE FREDERICKSON (nee COWIE) After a courageous, but short battle against cancer, it is with great sorrow that Vera's family announces her passing. She went peacefully, with family at her side on August 18, 2010 at the age of 78. She was born April 22, 1932 to Louis and Grace Cowie. She grew up in Oak Point, Manitoba and left home at a young age to work in Winnipeg where she met Ron. They were married October 28, 1950 and in their 60 years together they raised seven children, Delores a.k.a. Peeny (David) Johnson, Tim (Les), Tom, Darlene a.k.a. Chick (Adam) Siu, Denise Lawrence, Terry a.k.a. Buck and Darcy a.k.a. Dot (Rob) Beetstra. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, brothers Leonard (Edith), Cecil (Pauline), Lloyd (Diane), sisters Eileen (Rene), Marion, Rita (Harvey), sisters-in-law Shirley (Jack), Snook and her special aunt Margaret. Also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her mom and dad and her soul sister and best friend Doris a.k.a. Dodie. Vera loved gardening, bingo, puzzles and camping with her family who she protected with the ferocity of a mama bear. Following her wishes there will be no service. Just a small family gathering to celebrate her life. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Nanaimo Regional Hospital. Thank you so much for the amazing care given to Vera and her entire family, by everyone associated with the Palliative Care Unit. You made our lives so much easier. Thanks also to Dr. Pienaar, Dr. Carr and Dr. Spry. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Palliative Care Unit at N.R.G.H. would be appreciated. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again. We love you mama, always and forever.
