EILEEN PILE February 22, 1923 - August 20, 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eileen at the Seven Oaks Hospital, surrounded by her family, the evening of Friday, August 20, 2010. Left to cherish her memory is her dearly beloved husband of 61 years, Wallace and her children Linda Pittendreigh (Wayne), David (Ellen), Shirley Babaluk (John), Mervyn (Jodie) and Noreen Gnitzinger (Dieter). She is also lovingly remembered by her cherished grandchildren McGill, Lonny, Corey (Tammy), Cale (Farah), Jared, Kassi (Dave), Neil (Pat), Bryce, Marc, Alyson (Brant), Dayna (Stephan), Jayne and Brett and her great-grandchildren Chasey, Grace, John, Aedan and Cade. Born in England on February 22, 1923 to William and Elizabeth Douthwaite, Eileen immigrated to Canada with her family at the age of five. After graduating from high school in Winnipeg she attended business college and took her first job at the C.P.R. Winnipeg office where she met her future husband. Shortly after their marriage Eileen and Wally began their family and Eileen stayed home to raise her five children. From 1950 to 1975 Eileen's life revolved around her home and family, raising her children and participating in their activities. In 1976 as her children left home, she returned to work, as a librarian in the Lord Selkirk School Division at St. Andrews Elementary School. After retirement in 1994, Eileen and Wally spent most of their summers at their cottage in Spruce Sands, travelling and in the company of their many grandchildren. Eileen was involved in many activities throughout her life including bowling, golfing, curling and swimming. She was also an active sister in P.E.O., Chapter S in Selkirk for many years. She was a member of St. Clements Church and enjoyed singing in the choir. The family would like to thank the Seven Oaks General Hospital staff on the 5th Floor, Unit 5 and Dr. Goeke and the staff on the 3rd Floor, Units 3 and 1 for the excellent care provided to our mother. A special thank you to nurses Teresa, Susan and Mandy for their care and compassion. The celebration of Eileen's life will take place at St. Clements Anglican Church, River Road, Selkirk on August 24, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with the Venerable Godfrey Mawejje officiating. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Eileen's memory to St. Clements Church or a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
