Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER GEORGE REDDEN July 16, 1925 - August 22, 2010 It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Walter Redden. Walter passed away peacefully at his home at Longbow Lake, with family by his side. Walter is survived by Mary, his loving wife of 64 years; his children Lorne Redden (Pat), Aletha Henry (Tom), and Pat Olson (Brian); seven grandchildren, Tracy (Derek), Kathy (Geoff), Kelly (Matt), Leanne (Carlton), Karen (Pierre), Eric (Lydia) and Kurt. He also was blessed with 15 great-grandchildren and his two sisters-in-law Mabel Redden and Germaine Kennedy who both reside in Alberta. He was predeceased by his sister Wanda Cormylo and his brother Hubert Redden. As a young man Walter enjoyed tending to the farm animals on the Alberta family farm. Walter often reflected with pride about his contribution during the war in helping to build the Alaska Highway. Later in 1946 when he and Mary wed, they moved to Longbow Lake to begin building and establishing their well known tourist location - Redden's Camps. During the many years in tourist business, Walter felt very rewarded for all the friends he made from both Canada and the United States. He was proud of the dedicated hard work contributed by his family to establishing the ever-expanding tourist haven. He loved his fishing and hunting, and was famous for knowing the right fishing spot. Walter was a charter member of the Longbow Lake Fire Hall and a great advocate to assisting with any project that assisted with the development of the Longbow Lake community. He was a member of the Kenora Curling Club and the Kenora Golf Club. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Doctors Wehner, Kroeker and Wiebe and special thank you to Elaine Kozar for her kindness and assistance. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation. Funeral and following reception will be held at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, August 28 at 10:30 a.m.
