DORIS KRIEGER Adelheid Hildegard Doris Krieger was born in Winnipeg on September 18, 1931, the youngest child of Emile Schiewe, a Lutheran Pastor, and his wife Louise. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Walter and Sigesmund and her beloved husband Willymax. Doris was born when her parents were in their 40s and looking after them in their senior years with loving care and diligence, with the help of her own family, was a focal point of her life. Doris and Willymax Krieger were married on December 29, 1951 and they shared 54 happy years together until he passed away in 2006. Doris provided love, support and encouragement to her husband, children and grand-children and was successful in what she wanted most in life, to have a close loving family. She leaves this precious legacy in good hands. The memory of Doris is cherished by her daughter Karen, son-in-law Manfred Steinmann, grandchildren Carson and Leandra and her son Kelvin, daughter-in-law Mary (nee Hyland), grandchildren Adam (fiancée Jennifer) and Heather, as well as her nephews, nieces and many dear friends. Doris lived in Winnipeg all her life except for one year in Victoria after she married Willymax who was then in the Royal Canadian Navy. She attended Machray School up to grade 9 and St. John's High School to grade 11. She took an accounting course at Success Business College and did office work before staying at home to raise her family. She had an aptitude for interior design, took some evening university courses and put her skills to use in creating a beautiful home. Over the years, she also expressed her creativity in cake decorating, ceramics and macrame, participated in a swim program and was active in the Streamliners Club. She enjoyed sewing, baking, cooking, and collecting recipes and cookbooks which developed into her personal library. She also volunteered her time and talents to many groups including Ronald McDonald House and the Canadian Cancer Society. Doris was guided and sustained through prayer and Christian faith and a belief in God's involvement in her daily life. Together with Willymax, she belonged to Hope, St. Mark's and First Lutheran Churches. She was an empathetic listener who was very sensitive to the needs of others and usually put their needs above her own. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, sense of humour, beautiful smile and her cheerful positive spirit which she shared with everyone around her throughout life. Doris passed away peacefully on August 25, 2010 after a valiant battle with jaw cancer. As she often said This too shall pass . She is now re-united with her loved ones in God's heavenly mansion. Sincere gratitude is expressed to Dr. Karen Moran de Muller, CancerCare, Palliative Care and the Riverview Health Centre for their extraordinary and considerate care of Doris and her family. Donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation (675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg MB R3E 0V9) and the Riverview Health Centre Foundation (One Morley Avenue, Winnipeg MB R3L 2P4). Memorial service will be held at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street (parking lot is in back), at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2010.
