Remaining to forever cherish Ben's memory are wife Doris, of 49 years; sons, Ken and Doug; daughters, Karen Barkhouse, grandchildren Brittany and Jessica; Renee (Jeff) Helm, grandchildren JD, Desiree, Justin and Megan; and Bonnie (Tony), grandchildren Kyle and Jordan; brothers, Ed and Ron; sister Theresa Bibeau, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Samuel and Eileen, and brothers Sam Jr. and Fred (Marie). Born and raised in St. John's, NL, Ben came to Winnipeg in 1966 where he devoted his life to his family and worked hard during his sales career, eventually retiring after eight years with Walmart. Ben also found time to volunteer in the community for his children's sports, and he also enjoyed fishing and a good game of cribbage. Above all, he was a dedicated grandfather and loved spending time with his grandchildren. All who knew Ben will remember his happy spirit, his lively sense of humour, and his humble manner. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Wednesday, September 1st, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., in St. Edward's Roman Catholic Church, 836 Arlington St., with Rev. Fr. Rainerio Sarce, presiding. The family would like to thank the ICU nurses and doctors at the Health Sciences Centre who looked after Ben with such loving care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ben's memory may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3A 1P6.
