DOROTHY LUCIE RIECHEL (nee BECKER) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Lucie Riechel on Friday, August 27, 2010 at the age of 76 years. Remaining to forever cherish Dorothy's memory are her beloved husband Robert of 55 years of marriage; her five children Eva, Carla (Byron Rogowsky), Pamela (Murray Winmill), Andrew (Marlene Gifford) and Melissa (Gary Schnell); four grandsons, Daniel Rogowsky (Christine), Taylor, Jordan and Cody Dyck; her brother Dieter (Anorah), and two sisters, Irene (Normand Paradis) and Brigitte (Paul Vouk); plus many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Wilhelmina Becker; brother Ken; brothers Willie and Karl who had fallen during the Second World War; and her brother in law Paul Vouk. Dorothy was born in Poland on August 31, 1933 to Fred and Wilhelmina Becker. She immigrated to Canada shortly after the Second World War in 1948 and married Robert on June 30, 1955 at the age of 21. They raised their family initially in Charleswood, and then moved to Thompson, Manitoba in 1981. In 1989, Robert retired from many years at the Manitoba Telephone System and they moved to Creston, British Columbia where they spent three years enjoying the peaceful, beautiful mountains. They finally settled in dividing their time between sunny Ocean View, Hawaii and Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and wife and held her friends dear to her heart. She always had a smile to share and her wonderful sense of humour was enjoyed by all. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, she had a strong faith in the resurrection hope. (John 5:28, 29) Over the past few years, Dorothy struggled with numerous health problems, finally succumbing to liver cancer. She always had a cheery disposition and never complained throughout her struggle, insisting that she would become well again. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful nurses and staff at Pinawa Hospital, as well as Dr. Petkau, who all made her last days as comfortable as possible and provided caring support and compassion to her and her family during this difficult time. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 325 Wallasey St., Winnipeg, Manitoba. Officiating at the memorial will be Albert Johannson. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to the CancerCare Foundation of Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9.
